Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive & relax
Arrive at Bildeston, relax and explore the village. Once an important town for cloth, Bildeston is full of timber-framed cottages with fine pargetting and jettied upper storeys.
Overnight: Bildeston
Day 2 Glades, gardens & guildhalls
The day takes you through wooded glades, along green lanes and a Roman road to the pretty village of Chelsworth. Admire the cottage gardens and the gabled, thatched, timbered, tiled and colour- washed houses which face the river. Arriving at Lavenham for the night you will find yourself in a town filled with medieval houses, gracefully twisted with age. The market place looks much as it must have done in the middle ages with its cross surrounded by half timbered Guildhall and merchant’s houses.
Overnight: Lavenham
Mileage: Min 6.5 Max 8
Day 3 Highlights, hamlets & home
Time to explore Lavenham further, before setting off on your walk across the fields, passing ancient farm houses and churches on your way. As you climb the small hill out of Lavenham you gain a fine view of the town, before heading, perhaps for a lunchtime pint, to the little villages of Preston and Hitcham on your way back to Bildeston.
Mileage: Min 7 Max 7
